Turner Syndrome is a disease that only affects girls and women.  It is inherited when one of the two X chromosomes found in women is completely or partially missing.   

  Symptoms

-short stature

-lack of ovarian development

-webbed neck

-low hairline in back of head

-arms that turn out slightly at the elbow

-cardiovascular problems

-kidney and thyroid problems

-skeletal disorders

  Detection

A karyotype, a certain type of blood test, detects the composition of chromosomes in the patient.  This allows for the detection of Turner Syndrome.

  Treatment or Cure

No cure for Turner Syndrome

Treatments include:

-Growth hormone (with or without low dosage of androgen)

-Estrogen replacement therapy

-Modern reproductive technologies allowing a Turner Syndrome patient to carry a baby
